UPDATE: Woman dies in house fire
Update: January 17, 9:42 p.m.
The Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police have identified the victim in a fatal fire in Powell Township as 59-year-old Cheryl Girard.
They say the fire remains under investigation, and were assisted on scene by the 8th District Fire Investigator. The Powell Township Fire Department, Powell Township EMS, and the Marquette Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
A woman has died after a house fire in Marquette County.
The fire happened just after noon at 106 Bensinger in Big Bay.
A fire department spokesman says it was impossible to enter the building for a rescue attempt. Some four hours later, when fire crews were able to enter the house, they found the body of a woman.
The home is a total loss and the cause of the fire is unknown.
Powell Township EMS and Marquette Township Fire Department are still on the scene as of 5:30 p.m. Friday.
