Harvey man rescued from Marquette’s Lower Harbor

A man is recovering from hypothermia this afternoon after falling though the ice in Marquette’s Lower Harbor early Friday morning.

Seven Marquette City Firefighters were dispatched to Thill’s Fish Dock at 12:21 a.m. Upon arrival, Fire Department personnel located an individual in the water approximately 60 feet off shore. The Marquette Fire Department identified the victim as 21-year-old John Slagle of Harvey. Two firefighters equipped with Ice Rescue gear were able to swim out to Slagle and bring him back to shore. Slagle was then transported to Marquette General Hospital for hypothermia treatment. His condition is still unknown.

Marquette City Fire Department personnel were assisted on scene by the Marquette Police Department, Marquette General Hospital EMS Unit 141, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
