Phone scam reported in Calumet area
Maybe you’ve heard of this sort of scam: the caller says one of your relatives is in jail in another state or another country and needs you to post thousands of dollars in bail money.
The Michigan State Police – Calumet Post – says it’s almost always a scam.
They advise that you do NOT give out any personal or banking information to the caller – no matter how convincing the story sounds.
If you get a call like this – contact the police. And, for peace of mind, go ahead and call that family member to verify that everything is okay.
