NMU’s Colla & Gruber earn GLIAC honors

BAY CITY, Mich. – Sophomore guard Alyssa Colla, of the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team, has been named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team and sophomore guard Lauren Gruber was named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team on Friday (March 8).

Colla, a native of Muskego, Wis., led the team in points (349) and minutes played (983), averaging 12.9 points and 36.4 minutes per game. She started all 27 games for the Wildcats. Colla scored in double figures 20 times and 20 points in five games. She scored a season-high 22 points in back-to-back games vs. Michigan Tech (Feb. 2) and Grand Valley State (Feb. 7).

Gruber, a native of West Bend, Wis., also averaged in double figures for Northern with 11.6 points per game. She played 36.1 minutes per game and started all 27 games. Gruber tallied double figures in 20 games, scoring a career-high 26 points vs. Davenport (Nov. 10). For the season, she shot 46.5 percent from the floor, 40.4 from the three-point line and 85.7 from the free throw line.

NMU finished 13-14 overall and 10-12 in the GLIAC and qualified for the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth time in five years.
