Haidar leads Tech Men’s Hoops to victory

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Senior Ali Haidar scored 32 points for Michigan Tech in an 82-70 win over Northwood in GLIAC men’s basketball action Thursday (Feb. 21). He shot 11-of-19 from the field and 9-of-11 from the line.

“It feels awesome that we beat a good club,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “I am happy for our guys, and we will need it for Saturday.”

The Huskies opened the contest draining five of their first seven shots, including a pair of 3-pointers by sophomore Ben Stelzer. He would finish with 17 points shooting 4-of-6 from the field with four 3-pointers.

The Huskies shot 52-percent (13-25) from the field in the first to lead 37-34 at halftime.

Tech’s shooting improved to 58-percent (11-of-19) in the second half, including 20-of-22 (91-percent) from the free throw line.

The Huskies finished 7-of-10 from behind the arc, while the Timberwolves were 6-of-18 (33-percent).

Junior Austin Armga was the third Tech player to score in double figures finishing with 16.

Wes Wilcox led five Northwood players in double digits with 26 points.

The Timberwolves shot 48-percent (25-52) from the field and 33-percent (6-of-18) from behind the arc.

Tech finished with a 14-4 edge in points off turnovers.

Tech (17-7, 14-6) will host Lake Superior State Saturday (Feb. 23) at 1 pm.
