Edvard Grieg’s Complete Piano Sonatas Performed

MARQUETTE, Mich .— Edvard Grieg’s Complete Piano Sonatas will be performed by Steven Bjella on violin and Michael Keller on piano at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Reynolds Recital Hall. This performance will include sonata in F Major, Opus 8; sonata in G Major, Opus 13; and sonata in C Minor, Opus 45.

This performance is an opportunity to hear all three of Grieg’s deeply nationalistic violin sonatas. Written between 1865 and 1887, the works have folk-like melodies and harmonies reflecting a rich Norwegian heritage. Bjella is a professor of violin and coordinator of strings at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Keller is professor emeritus of music at UWSP. In addition to playin as a duo, each artist has performed widely throughout the United States and Europe in recitals, orchestral concerti and chamber music.

Tickets for this event are $8 for adults and $4 for students. All tickets will be sold at the door. This concert is sponsored by the NMU Music Department with proceeds going to music scholarships. For details, call 906-227-2563.
