Ishpeming Hematites Football Preview

The Upper Peninsula has not seen a school win a state title in football in five years, when both Menominee and Forest Park won state titles in Division 5 and Division 8 back in 2007.

Come Saturday, Ishpeming will try and end that drought, up against the biggest team the Hematites might ever play.

Ishpeming is practicing at the Superior Dome thru Thursday, preparing for their final game of the season.

Detroit Loyola has size and speed everywhere you look. The Bulldogs offensive line ranks as one of the best in the state.

One of their lineman, who is currently a junior, already holds scholarship offers from both Michigan and Michigan State, as well as several other Division I schools.

Loyola’s size does concern the Hematites a bit, but they have taken on bigger teams all postseason long, and as we know, they have won every time.

The Hematites will depart from Ishpeming Friday at 7am. They will stop in Gaylord to practice before the get to Detroit Friday night.

Then on Saturday, its an early wake up for the Hematites, as they will play the first of four State Championship games at Ford Field. The game between Ishpeming and Detroit Loyola is set to start at 10am.

The game can be seen live on Fox Sports Detroit.
