Packers Look to Rookie With Woodson Out
Rookie Casey Hayward has fit right into the Green Bay Packers defensive backfield.
He’s tied for the NFL lead with four interceptions so far this season.
He’s had all four of them in the last three games, and he made his first career NFL start against St. Louis last sunday.
The Packers will need Hayward to continue playing like that for as long as Charles Woodson is out with a broken collarbone.
He’s expected to be out for six weeks.
While Woodson is technically a safety, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says he sees the same kind of big–play ability in Hayward, a cornerback.
McCarthy told the Associated Press today, “From the first day, you could see his ball skills.
…Any time you take a rookie and play him in a couple different positions in a multi–scheme defense, I think that says a little bit about the young man.”
