One of the candidates for the Michigan 1st Congressional seat was touring the U.P. last week.
Democratic Candidate Gary McDowell was in Marquette last week as part of his “Our lakes, Our livelihood tour”. While here McDowell said he was trying to point out the economic advantages in the U.P. and the importance of the Great Lakes. He also said the State of Michigan needs to elect a Congressman that is committed to protecting the Great Lakes. McDowell is a fifth generation yooper and a lifelong farmer. He lives in the town of Rudyard in the Eastern U.P.
