Unsafe Water Conditions Leave Kayaker Stranded

A kayaker from Kentucky was rescued Wednesday after being stranded on Grand Island due to high winds and unsafe paddling conditions.

58-year-old Craig Perdue was reported as missing by a member of his party to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Rangers at 4:32 Wednesday afternoon.

Perdue paddled to the east channel of the lake to a small beach surrounded by cliffs. Perdue said he sough refuge because he knew the conditions were too dangerous for him or his sea kayak to handle.
