Marquette Township has seen a great deal of commercial development in the last several years.
And another development is quickly taking shape.
It’s north of US–41, next to Lowes.
The property is near where the Lamplighter Motel and the Sears building once stood.
The new building will be home to a T.J. Maxx clothing and home furnishings store and a PetSmart pet supply store.
Township planner Jason McCarthy says the developer has proposed to turn the store spaces over to the tenants in early August, with both stores opening at that time.
And development in that area may not stop with the two stores.
There’s also a reserved space, just west of the soon-to-be stores, that may also be built upon very soon.
McCarthy says although the township hasn’t received any site plans or other documentation regarding that area yet, he says such paperwork may come in by the end of the year.
T.J. Maxx is based in Massachusetts.
At the moment, their nearest store to the U.P. is in Gaylord.
PetSmart is based in Phoenix, Arizona.
Their nearest current store is in Green Bay.
