Residents of Schoolcraft County have been without landline telephones for several hours tonight.
The Michigan State Police, Delta County Dispatch, say a fiber optic line has been damaged, which is the cause of the communication outage.
Officials say most residents are not able to make or receive phone calls.
This does effect some cell phones as well.
In the case of an emergency, dialing 9–1–1 will still work for landline calls. But not from cell phones.
Officials say landline services are out in the Garden and Rapid River areas as well. hone companies are currently working to fix this problem.
