Turn the U.P. Pink Day

We’ve brought you stories throughout this month marking the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Today was ‘Turn the U.P. Pink’ Day.

Mike Polfus of Carney is trying to raise money for the American Cancer Society by selling pink T–shirts to students at several dozen U.P. high schools.

Everyone who bought the shirts were encouraged to wear them today to show support.

He says he was able to get 40 high schools to join the program this year, and he had T-shirts printed with the mascot of each school on them.

Mike was dropping off some T–shirts at Westwood High School in Ishpeming Township this afternoon.

In its first two years, ‘Turn the U.P. Pink’ has attracted thousands of followers.

Polfus says he sold about 4,500 T-shirts last year and about 3,000 so far this year.

The T–shirts cost 10 dollars.

if you want one of this year’s shirts, you can still buy one.
