Meth Lab Byproducts Found in Woods

Another drug danger to report tonight…for both people and the environment.

Someone walking in the woods in Michigamme Township found the illegal dump site of suspected meth lab byproducts.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department identified the materials as components commonly used in the illegal production of methamphetamine.

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team brought in its meth response team to neutralize the hazardous chemical residue.

There was evidence seized at the dump site which may identify the suspect or suspects who deposited the components.

The items were found in a wooded area near Cardinal Red Road in Michigamme Township.

If you have any information on this dump site or any other illegal dump site, call 911 or your local law enforcement agency immediately.

These components may not be readily recognizable but are highly dangerous.

Police ask that you not search into an illegal dump site, as the chemical compounds pose a health and safety hazard.

The Sheriff’s Department and UPSET are continuing with this investigation.
