President Obama’s Itinerary

President Barack Obama’s Marquette visit two days from now will not be open to the public.

The President is expected to land at Sawyer International Airport just before noon, speak at Northern Michigan University shortly before 1:30 and fly out of Sawyer at about 3.

The President will speak at Vandament Arena to an invitation-only audience which will be primarily NMU students.

Invitations were distributed today, with instructions for picking up tickets tomorrow.

The President will be in Marquette to recognize local businesses that have been able to grow as a result of broadband Internet access – particularly those exporting goods to new markets around the world.

The next-generation wireless network in Marquette, what we refer to as NMU’s WiMax, is an effective demonstration of how the President’s proposal to open up airwaves will spark new innovation, put people back to work, grow the economy and — as he says it — help America win the future.

The President will see a demonstration of the WiMax network at Northern just prior to his remarks.

He’ll also meet with selected area business people who have benefited from the service.
