UPAWS Electronic Tagging

Technology has gone to the dogs: and to the cats, too.

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter in Marquette County is tagging all adoptive pets in a new way.

A microchip a little larger than a grain of rice is embedded in all dogs and cats before they are put up for adoption.

The microchip is included in the adoption fee.

And, shelter staff say the chip is a good idea for all pet owners.

More than 300 pets were returned to their owners last year…some of them did have a microchip.

In fact, one pet missing from its’ family for more than three years was finally reunited — thanks to the chip.
