U.P. deer habitat grants

For the fifth straight year, the Michigan DNR has grant money available for Upper Peninsula projects to improve the living environment for deer.

The DNR has $50,000 available this year for deer habitat improvement grants in the U.P.

The grant money can be used on any land that is not owned by the state of Michigan, including private property.

DNR communications representative Debbie Munson Badini says that besides looking at the ways the grant proposals might improve the deer habitat, the DNR looks at how each proposal might improve public access for hunting on that land.

Six projects in the Upper Peninsula were funded last year.

if you want more information about how to apply, the DNR is asking you to speak with private lands wildlife biologist Bill Scullon by phone at (906) 563-9247 or by e-mail at scullonh@michigan.gov .
