Shopko High School Gear

March Madness may be at a near-fever pitch with the NCAA basketball Final Four this weekend, but on the local level, there will soon be a new vendor for team spirit items.

Within the next few days, there’ll be a new place in western Marquette County to buy high school athletic gear.

Shopko is beginning to sell high school apparel at 10 of its Shopko hometown stores in the Midwest, customized to each store’s area.

The Ishpeming store is one of them.

The new gear will be on the sports apparel racks by Sunday.

Store manager Matt Hoks says they’ll be selling several styles of Westwood Patriots and Ishpeming Hematites T-shirts, as well as polo shirts for each high school.

If the clothing sells well, Shopko intends to expand the high school product line.

He says Negaunee Miners apparel would be next, followed by any other area schools that customers express a desire for.

A Wisconsin firm will produce all of the T–shirts and polos, and the school districts will receive a royalty from the sales of their own items.
