School Board Restructuring Working Out

The result of the Marquette Area Public Schools’ decision to downsize Board of Education subcommittees is getting some high marks.

The school board launched the new program in July, downsizing the 4 subcommittees to 2.

Finance, personnel, k-12 extracurricular activities and general school-related topics are all being handled by either a planning committee or a performance committee.

The result has been more than effective.

Now that there are only 2 committees covering these topics, as opposed to 4, members have more to discuss during their sessions.

However, MAPS superintendent Jon Hartwig says the trial basis of the restructured groups is proving effective.

The committees have 3 members each, and they don’t leave out any topics that the old 4 committees used to cover.
