Prosecutor reviews Marquette Co. fatal shooting

The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office says no criminal charges are warranted in the  shooting death of Lori Lee Lee Thursday, April 4.

Prosecutor Matt Weise’s office has reviewed the Michigan State Police investigation into the incident in western Marquette County.  He says the officers involved in the shooting were justified in their actions.

The 50-year-old Champion woman was armed with a rifle when officers responded to a domestic dispute at a home on County Road FS in Humboldt Township.

Police say Lee confronted the responding officers outside the home and pointed the rifle at them.

The officers commanded Lee to put the rifle down, and the State Police say that when she refused, a trooper shot her.

An autopsy at Marquette General Hospital determined that Lee died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say the responding officers were a Michigan State Police trooper with 17 years of service and a Marquette County Sheriff’s Department deputy with five years of service.

Both officers, previously on administrative leave, are either back on the job or on the schedule.
