Presidential primary classified as regular election date

LANSING — A bill designed to allow local jurisdictions to include proposals in the Presidential primary has been signed into law.

Governor Rick Snyder signed House Bill 4904 Tuesday. The bill, which was sponsored by Representative Ed McBroom, designates the Michigan Presidential primary as a regular election date and clarifies filing dates for ballot proposals.

In a committee hearing regarding the bill last month, McBroom said it would provide a better use of government dollars by allowing local governments to piggyback on the statewide primary. The bill passed through the House with a 105 to one vote, and the Senate unanimously approved it.
