Nyberg named Governor's U.P. Rep

Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of David Nyberg, of Skandia, as director of the Northern Michigan Office. Nyberg will be based in Marquette.

Nyberg fills the vacancy created by Greg Andrews, who accepted the position of resource economic development liaison with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Andrews will assist the department with projects that link opportunities for economic development with natural resources and public land in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. He is based in Marquette.

“The economic vitality of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula is critical to the reinvention of the Great Lakes State,” said Snyder. “David will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the region to take advantage of the exciting opportunities that exist. I am confident he will effectively serve area residents. We’re pleased to have both David and Greg working on behalf of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.”

Nyberg is founder and principal of 3rd Coast Strategies LLC, a Marquette-based government affairs consulting company which predominantly works with natural resource industry clients. Previously, he served as legislative affairs manager for the Michigan United Conservation Clubs and as legislative assistant to former Speaker of the House Craig DeRoche. Nyberg is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan United Conservation Clubs, Escanaba River Association and Ducks Unlimited. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a law degree, both from Michigan State University.

Nyberg’s appointment is effective Monday, Aug. 6.
