Names released in Skandia drunk driver accident

The names of the individuals involved an accident, that put a 61-year-old man in the hospital after he was hit by a truck backing out of driveway, have been released.

56-year-old Daniel Delaski of Skandia has been charged with “Operating While Impaired – Causing Serious Injury.” The incident happened around 5:00 p.m. Thursday night in the 100 block of Ingalls Road in Skandia. Delaski was backing his 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer down his driveway when he ran over 61-year-old Richard Gelsinger. Delaski was attempting to give Gelsinger a ride and was unaware he was walking behind his vehicle at the time of the crash. Gelsinger suffered internal injuries and was transported to Marquette General Hospital for treatment. He is currently in critical condition.

While investigating the accident, deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office determined Delaski was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and subsequently arrested him. He was then arraigned in Marquette County District Court this morning for a felony charge of Operating While Intoxicated. If convicted, Delaski could spend up to five years in jail and/or pay $1,000 to $5,000 in fines. He is due back in court for a preliminary exam on October 11th at 10:00 a.m.

Skandia-West Branch First Responders and Marquette General EMS assisted at the scene of the accident, which is still under investigation.
