MTU’s Stelzer earns weekly GLIAC award

BAY CITY, Mich. – Michigan Tech men’s basketball student-athlete Ben Stelzer (Manitowoc, Wis.) has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week after the second week of conference divisional matchups.

The senior guard averaged 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in helping the Huskies to a pair of road wins. He had 19 points on 5-of-7 3-point shooting in a 78-67 win at Hillsdale on Thursday (Jan. 22) before posting his 11th 20-point game of the season on Saturday (Jan. 24) as Tech handed Saginaw Valley State its first GLIAC loss of the season 66-58.

Stelzer, who earned GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors twice earlier this season (Nov. 24 and Dec. 17), continues to lead the GLIAC in scoring with a 21.9 average.

Michigan Tech owns a 12-4 overall record and 9-3 league mark. The Huskies host Northwood and Lake Superior State at the SDC Gym this Thursday (Jan. 29) and Saturday (Jan. 31), respectively.
