Michigan Unemployment Rises Slightly

Michigan unemployment isn’t climbing quickly anymore, but it *is* still climbing.

The jobless rate is at its highest point in more than 25 years.

Unemployment in the state rose to 15.3% in September.

And it’s the highest Michigan has seen since 1983.

The previous 26-year high was last month’s 15.2% figure.

It was a hair under 9% at this point last year.

The state Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth says there are nearly 400,000 fewer people in Michigan now with full-time jobs than there were a year ago.

Government was the area that took the biggest hit last month, losing more than 20,000 jobs.

The national unemployment rate in September was 9.8%.

And that was also the highest figure since 1983.
