Mental Health Summit ready for veterans

IRON MOUNTAIN — The 3rd annual Mental Health Summit will be held tomorrow at Bay West College to help improve mental health care for veterans.

The event is put on by the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center to help bring key stakeholders in the community with the goal of enhancing the mental health and well–being of veterans. According to Coordinator Brenda Reed, the first two years have been successful and they look forward to building on that success this year.

“We’ve really been able to pull together community organizations and VA services to really improve access for mental health services for veterans,” said Mental Health Summit Coordinator Brenda Reed, “and be able to network and get those working relationships going.”

All veterans and their family members are highly encouraged to attend and learn more about what services are available to them.

“Some of the topics we will be discussing are the Choice Act, we’ll also be talking about peer support services that are available, and work options as well for veterans.”

The Mental Health Summit goes from 8:30 -4:00 p.m. (CT) in Fornetti Hall at Bay West College.
