NEGAUNEE — On Wednesday afternoon, kids lined Iron Street to do some bike riding.

“We’re going to go on a bike parade!” said Vinnie.

He’s a part of the annual Kids Bike Parade in Negaunee and he decorated his bike just for the event. Vinnie described his bike, decorated for the parade.”It has red and blue, and it has flags and stars and balloons,” he said

The parade is the beginning of Kid Day for Pioneer Days. Hosted annually by the Negaunee Elks for the past thirty years, one Elk’s member said this event was special because it was for the kids.

“It’s something for the kids. It’s Pioneer Days, there’s everything going on but there’s nothing for the kids.” said Doug Dushane, a member of the Nugaunee Elks.

It looked like it could have rained right before the parade, but Doug said that would have been impossible. “They were talking about rain this morning and I said no we’re not going to have rain because this is for the kids.”

Many of the kids said they were most excited to see all the decorated bikes. “Everybody has a really cool bike,” said Gracie, whose also riding in the parade.

After the parade the kids gathered at the ice arena for games, food and more.
