Jail Time for Illegal Fishermen

2 Delta County men caught fishing with illegal nets are both heading to jail.

48-year-old Daryl Tatrow of Garden will go to jail for 6 months and then spend 2 years on probation once he gets out.

27-year-old Kerry Johnson of Cooks has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

They both pleaded no contest to fishing with an illegal device, which is a misdemeanor.

Tatrow also pleaded no contest to attempted resisting or obstructing a police officer.

That’s a felony, and it’s why his sentence was more severe.

2 months ago, Tatrow and Johnson got caught using illegal gill nets in Big Bay de Noc.

Tatrow fled the scene on foot.

He and Johnson will lose their fishing licenses for 3 years.

There’s also a third suspect in the case.

He’ll be charged in the Sault Band of Chippewa Indians Tribal Court with subsistence fishing without a license.
