House fire extinguished, one injured

A house fire was extinguished today in 300 block of South 12th Street in Escanaba.

Escanaba Public Safety Officers arrived at the scene just after 9:30 a.m. and observed heavy smoke coming from the residence. The homeowner directed emergency personnel to the basement where the majority of the flames were contained. Officers were able to put out the fire before it spread to the main floor.

One of the residents sustained minor burns, but no officers were injured in the process. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage as a result.

Investigators were able to confirm that the fire started in the basement. They have classified the incident as accidental.
