H.S. Football Preview: Ishpeming Hematites

High school football teams in the Upper Peninsula aren’t known for offenses that have 3, 4, or even 5 wide receiver sets for a quarterback to throw the pigskin to, but that’s exactly the kind of offense that awaits the Ishpeming Hematites this weekend.

10-1 Lake City will bring their shotgun spread attack with them to Ishpeming. The Trojans have 30pts or more in 8 games and 60+ pts in a game 3 times, so the Hematites know that they will be facing an aerial assault come Saturday.

The Hematites will have to defeat Lake City without all U.P. Lineman Brad Wootke, who was ejected from last Saturdays game against Mancelona.

Ishpeming appealed Wootke’s ejection to the MHSAA, but that appeal was denied.

The Hematites and Trojans have kickoff set for 1pm on Saturday.
