Gov. Snyder completes Mackinac Bridge walk

Governor Rick Snyder set a quick pace in the annual Labor Day walk across the Mackinac Bridge, and thousands of people followed him.

The governor says he was pleased to break his previous best time for the walk.  He completed the five–mile crossing from the St. Ignace side to the Mackinaw City side in 57 minutes.

This was the 56th year of the bridge walk.

There is no charge to take part in it, but there is a $5 charge for a bus ride to either side of the bridge to pick up your vehicle.

Michigan’s governor has led the walk every year except 1992, when President George H.W. Bush led it as part of his re–election campaign.
