Beacon House tees up for Celebrity Golf Classic
Though still a couple months away, the Beacon House’s 4th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic is ready to take to the green.
Mary Dowling, CEO of the Hospitality House of the Upper Peninsula, said, “We use every single available golf cart and golf ball in the Upper Peninsula for this thing; it’s huge. We feed 500 people four meals in two days. It’s just the biggest party that you’ve ever seen.”
Former Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci will return to host the event this year.
36 national celebrities will be coming to the U.P. to partner up with participants and tee off at the Marquette Golf Club’s Grey Walls course. The same will be done at the Heritage course with 36 local celebrities.
The Hospitality House of the U.P. relies on the golf classic to raise a third of its yearly operating costs. The other two thirds are raised through guest contributions and generous donations all year long.
“Well the neat thing about this celebrity golf outing is it raises the awareness that, number one Beacon House is here. It helps us to tell our story to people across the Upper Peninsula, so when they find themselves in sometimes very horrifying medical situations, they’re following an ambulance here from Engadine or their father just had a major heart attack and someone has to come here from Ironwood, many times those people they don’t know what to do once they get here, and we’re so fortunate that there are so many wonderful people telling them that there’s one less worry now because Beacon House is here for you,” Dowling said.
