2 in Custody after attempted bank robbery

Two people are in custody in Houghton County after an attempted bank robbery this morning in Chassell.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s department says it happened at 11:54 a.m. Saturday at the Superior National Bank.

ABC 10 News Now has a reporter at the scene. More details will be posted as they become available.

This comes just three days after an unmasked suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of money in an armed robbery in Marquette County’s Harvey. On October 12, at 1:15 pm, the suspect walked into the Northern Michigan Bank and Trust in the Gateway Plaza and calmly asked for money.

A white man wearing glasses and a green zip-up fleece hoodie walked into the bank near the intersection of U.S. 41 and M-28 Wednesday and asked a teller to fill up a bag he put on the counter. Police say he showed the teller a black pistol.

The suspect was in and out of the bank in under two minutes. The teller described the man as about 6’2 and between 200 and 220 pounds. Bank employees say the man left on foot, headed north.

Police from Marquette County and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been searching for the suspect. Police are following up on a number of tips but are still asking that anyone with information contact the Chocolay Township Police department at 906.249.4040 or their local law enforcement agency. As she The suspect
