Update On Fatal Accident that Shut Down Mackinac Bridge

Police continue to investigate a fatal head on collision between a semi–truck and car on the Mackinac bridge this afternoon.

Troopers from the michigan state police saint igance post say witnesses reported that the driver of the Semi-truck, 64 year old Randolph Smith of West Branch Michigan was traveling southbound just after 1:30 when he crossed over into the Northbound lane, colliding head–on with a vehicle driven by Miroslav Semjan of Grosse Pointe Park.

Smith was transported to mackinac straits hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Semjan as well as his passenger were not injured in the accident.

Police say that Smith may have suffered from a medical emergency.

The Mackinac Bridge was shut down from 2 to 4 pm.
