UPAWS, Cognition release “Coco Chanel’s Pretty Pilsner”

ISHPEMING — UPAWS held its first of three events this year with Cognition Brewing releasing a special brew to help out the shelter.

A keg of “Coco Chanel’s Pretty Pilsner” was tapped tonight, named after a cute dog whose owners, Joe and Sue, won a chance to “Name A Beer After Your Pet” at the UPAWS’s Paws For Cause gala.

“This is a live auction item,” said Amber Talo, a UPAWS board member. “Our donors with the highest bids donate a significant and generous donation to UPAWS to name a beer after their pet at Cognition. So this is our third year doing this, and we’ve had some really amazing beers so we’re excited to kick it off tonight.”

Talo and the folks at Cognition “brewed” up this idea a few years ago, and it has since become one of their best fundraising efforts. Border Grill also catered the event, and a limited edition shirt was also for sale with the proceeds going to the animal shelter. The specialty pilsner is has pink guava in it, and is specifically brewed with this dog in mind.

“You get to customize the beer to whatever you want it to be. The brewmasters here do a really good job at trying to incorporate flavors that have your pets personality,” said Talo. “So it’s a really unique limited edition specialty brew.”

“Coco Chanel’s Pretty Pilsner” is only available for a limited time, and a portion of every pint sold will go to help UPAWS. And if you’re wondering, Coco Chanel was in attendance for the evening.

The next limited edition beer to be released by Cognition with UPAWS will be later on during the summer, and the third and final release of the year will be the biggest release yet and be featured at Beerfest.
