L’ANSE — The Baraga County Chamber and the Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College (KBOCC) hosted the grand opening of the Migiziinsag (Little Eagles) Early Learning Center on Tuesday, August 27.

People were invited to celebrate the opening of the new building and play area.

“Throughout the whole curriculum there’s Native American culture, Ojibwa language [and] Anishinaabe language throughout, so that’s what makes us unique” said Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College President, Lori Sherman. “It prepares them to be ready for kindergarten and it’s important because [the faculty] can catch any delays or areas where the child may need work.”

The program is a free kindergarten readiness program for children that turn 4-years-old before December 1, 2018.

The program was funded through the state, which will also allow early childhood education students from the KBOCC a chance to get real world teaching experience.
