Houghton getting warm-weather amenities ready for spring
With most of the snow finally melting, the city of Houghton is bringing out some of the amenities for the spring season.
Some of the work on the downtown area is already finished, with benches being installed and handicap parking spots being designated. Cyclists will also have a spot to park their bikes. Winter weather did affect some docks on the lakeshore that will need to be repaired.
Houghton City Manager Eric Waara says city crews can’t rush into these plans. “Once things get nice, people are out and they want to be outside,’ he said. “There’s a sequence of how things get done in the spring and it’s awful tough to get it all done in one week.”
The city asks that residents be patient as workers do their best to have everything finished as quickly as possible.
