Kids’ drama camp in Gwinn

Marquette County kids are learning acting at a summer camp this month.

The Superior Arts Council is sponsoring a summer drama camp for students entering third through ninth grades.

The three-week camp is taking place at Gwinn High School.

The kids are learning the music and the dialogue as they prepare to perform a musical later this month.

“Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.” is based on the “Schoolhouse Rock” animated kids’ series on ABC from the early ’70s to the mid-’80s.

It later returned to TV for a while in the ’90s.

“A lot of us remember back when the cartoon was on,” camp director Dave Dagenais said. “We’ve done ‘101 Dalmatians’, ‘Into the Woods, Jr.’; we’ve done several different types of shows. In 2008, we produced a show based on the history of Gwinn for the Gwinn centennial.”

The performances of “Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.” will be in Gwinn High School on July 25th and 26th.

The shows are at 7 p.m. on each night and, just like the camp, the shows are free of charge.
