Mustangs ready for team camp
The Munising Mustangs boys varsity basketball team is set to play at the Gaylord team camp next week.
The Mustangs will play nine games in three days.
In order to prepare for the upcoming camp, Munising scrimmaged against Negaunee on Wednesday.
Dan Waterman, the head coach of the Mustangs, said that scrimmaging the Miners helped his team prepare for the competition they will face downstate.
“Its amazing- especially a school like Negaunee with their tradition and with the returning talent that they have, we were looking forward to getting some good work in and we learned some things,” said Waterman.
“This will definitely help us and set the tone for going down to Gaylord next week,” Waterman added.
Negaunee won’t be making the trip to Gaylord, but head coach Mike O’Donnell was just happy to see his players back in the gym.
“We went to Michigan Tech’s team camp last week and we have to try and get a few more things organized, but the bottom line is these guys have to play as much as they can,” said O’Donnell.
“It’s nice to get them in a controlled setting with some referees, so they don’t pick up a lot of bad habits like they do on the summer court,” O’Donnell went on to say.
O’Donnell told ABC 10 Sports that he plans on taking the Miners to another team camp later this summer.
