Good News Awards for U.P. media

U.P. media organizations received recognition this afternoon for spreading good news.

The Good News Awards are a joint effort of the Evangelical Lutheran, Presbyterian, United Methodist, Catholic and Episcopal churches of the U.P.

Nearly 20 news outlets from across Upper Michigan received 41 different awards.

The awards cover print, radio, TV and Internet media sources from 2012, and they recognize media agencies for sharing stories that highlight the positives about people and events of Upper Michigan, not just bad news.

We at ABC 10 received awards for our series “What Is Hospice?” from last November and for a story from last July about a portable version of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial visiting Gladstone.

We also received a Certificate of Merit for another story from last summer about talking urinal cakes being placed in Delta County bar and restaurant bathrooms to remind people to not drink and drive.
