Juvenile Suspect in Bomb Threats

A juvenile suspect is suspected of making Friday’s bomb threats across much of Marquette County.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says the suspect’s name will not be released, but they say the suspect is now receiving psychiatric treatment at Marquette General Hospital.

Police say they learned the suspect’s identity shortly after the bomb threat against the Sawyer Medical Center was received, and they say they took the suspect into custody at that point.

The Sawyer Medical Center threat came in at about 3:30 Friday afternoon.

Other threats against Sawyer International Airport and North Star Academy in Marquette Township had been made earlier in the day.

Police say the suspicious luggage found at the airport was not related to this incident, but they say because a bomb–sniffing dog sensed explosives, they called in a Michigan State Police bomb squad from gaylord.

The luggage did not turn out to contain any suspicious or explosive materials.

Friday’s threats also mentioned Marquette General and Northern Michigan University as potential targets.

No explosives were found at any of the five threatened locations.
