Federal funds granted to UP road workers, first responders

LANSING — Two UP entities are set to get upgrades, thanks to funds from the USDA.

Marinesco Township will receive $13,600 for a four–wheel–drive rescue vehicle, which will help first responders attend to fires and accidents in remote locations.

The Houghton County Road Commission will receive nearly $118,000.

$41,900 will purchase a vehicle column lift; $50,000 will go towards a quad axle truck; and $26,074 will be used for a truck with water tank steamer attachment.

The equipment will be used to repair roads that were damaged during a flood that occurred in 2018.
