LANSING — Governor Gretchen Whitmer is clarifying her policy about the return of sports.

In a press release, the Governor Whitmer explains that a face covering must be worn at all times for athletes that can’t maintain a 6–foot distance from others.

Masks must be worn for training, practice, and competition. This includes football, soccer, and volleyball.

The COVID-19 virus is easily spread through airborne particles and can affect everyone differently,” said Governor Whitmer. “By wearing a face covering when proper distancing is not possible, athletes will be better protected from contracting the virus and spreading it to family members, frontline workers, and vulnerable populations.”

The MDHHS is still recommending against having contact sports played.
