Dancing with our Stars Marquette County Style kicks off 8th year

MARQUETTE — One of the most unique fundraising events has kicked off for its 8th year.

The “Dancing with our Stars Marquette County Style” dance competition officially started Tuesday night, with this year’s contestants meeting at the Landmark Inn to learn details about the competition, and get acquainted with everyone involved.

The competition has 100% of its proceeds going towards the UP Hospice Foundation, which helps hospice families across the UP.

As one organizer explains, the success of the competition is a testament to the generosity of the area.

“The Marquette County community is totally incredible,” said Lindsay Hemmila, consultant for the competition. “From all the fundraising that I’ve done over the years, events that I’ve put on, this event…it’s incredible at how much people want to give back. They love Marquette County, they love the people here, the love the causes, and it’s just so amazing. I’m not sure that we would capture this in any other community.”

Each competition has a theme, and this year’s theme is Superheroes and Villains.

Competitors are paired with dance professionals, with whom they will work with to make a routine, to be performed on the 20th and 21st of May.
