Marquette County man pronounced dead after motorcycle accident

ELY TOWNSHIP — One Marquette County man is dead after a motorcycle crash that happened at night on July 25th. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to a single motorcycle crash with an unresponsive man Thursday at approximately 11:55 p.m.

The crash happened near the intersection of County Road 581 and County Road CD in Ely Township. A black Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by a 56-year-old Tilden Township man, was traveling north on County Road 581 near County Road CD and left the road.

The motorcycle hit a utility pole, throwing the driver off the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. County Road 581 was partially blocked for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated. The roadway has reopened since the incident.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is considered a factor. The man’s name has not been released. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to call the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office at 906-225-8435.

Ishpeming Township Fire and EMS, the Ishpeming Police Department, and the Michigan State Police all assisted at the scene.
