Cliffs’ approves new contract with USW

CLEVELAND — United Steelworkers members at all four Cleveland Cliffs facilities voted this week to approve a new four-year contract with the USW announced Thursday night. Cliffs confirmed the news Friday morning.

The deal includes workers at the Tilden and Empire Mines in Marquette County.

The USW says the contract includes a signing bonus along with significant wage increases — $4.25 over four years — and maintains high-quality, affordable health care and strong retirement benefits.

The previous USW contract with Cliffs expired Oct. 1.

Cliffs says the new contract covers approximately 1,800 USW-represented workers.
