MUNISING —  July 18th is National Hot Dog day and if you were looking for a unique hot dog you might want to go to Munising.

Johnny Dogs is a restaurant in Munising and it specializes in creating gourmet hot dogs.

The establishment is always experimenting with new recipes that can vary from many different styles. They can have an Asian styled dog or lean more towards a BBQ styled dog and there are even more unique recipes as well.

The restaurant works hard to have all of its ingredients homemade and the meat is smoked daily. The owner of Johnny Dogs has been cooking in many different regions and wanted to come to the Upper Peninsula to bring something different to the table.

“I have lived all over the country and I have cooked in a lot of high end restaurants between New York and San Francisco,” said Owner of Johnny Dogs, John Flanders. “When I came back up here, I just decided something needs to be done here. I wanted to do something interesting and creative and hot dogs seemed like the perfect platform for it.”

Johnny Dogs is open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm.
