Bloch qualifies for NCAA outdoor championships
HOUGHTON – Liz Bloch of the Michigan Tech women’s track & field team has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Region Team. In addition, Bloch has qualified for the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships in the 1500 Meter Run which are scheduled for May 24-26 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Bloch recorded a season best and Michigan Tech school record time of 4:27.93 in the 1500 Meter Run this past weekend at the Dr. Keeler Track & Field Invitational hosted by North Central College on her way to second place in the event. Bloch broke her own record of 4:29.88 which she set earlier this season at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays. The Tech record coming into the season was held by Deedra Irwin who posted a time of 4:35.22 in 2015.
Bloch claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship in the 1500 Meter Run in Ashland by crossing the line in first place with a time of 4:36.81. She placed third in the 800 Meter Run (2:16.49) at the GLIAC Championships, garnering First and Third Team All-GLIAC Honors during the first week of May.
Bloch is currently ranked 20th nationally in NCAA Division II in the 1500 and is 33rd in the national rankings in the 800m. Bloch recorded her provisional qualifying time of 2:11.02 (career best and school record) in the 800m at the Long Beach State Invitational on April 20th.
