Michigan Tech hockey unveils 2018-19 schedule

HOUGHTON – The Michigan Tech hockey program announced its 2018-19 schedule on Wednesday (May 9) in conjunction with the WCHA unveiling its composite schedule. The Huskies have 36 regular season games on the schedule that includes eight nonconference and 28 WCHA contests.

The 98th season of Tech hockey begins at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena on Oct. 12-13 against defending National Champ Minnesota Duluth on Hall of Fame Weekend. The Huskies will travel to Wisconsin for the second season in a row on Oct. 26-27 for a meeting with the Badgers at the Kohl Center.

November begins with a six-game road trip. Tech and Alabama Huntsville will meet in the WCHA-opener down south on Nov. 2-3 before a trip to Ferris State the next weekend (Nov. 9-10). The Black and Gold will then travel to Clarkson on Nov. 16-17 for the first meeting since the 1969-70 season. Alaska comes to Houghton for the first WCHA home series (Nov. 23-24) the day after Thanksgiving.

Tech plays a string of home games in December, starting with a Nov. 30-Dec. 1 home series against Bemidji State. The first of two home-and-away series with Northern Michigan is the following weekend (Dec. 7-8). The teams will meet in Marquette Friday and Houghton Saturday. UAH comes to town on Dec. 14-15 and the year wraps up with the 54th annual Great Lakes Invitational on Dec. 28-29 at Little Caesars Arena. The Huskies open against Michigan while Michigan State and Lake Superior State meet in the other semifinal.

The New Year opens at Minnesota State on Jan. 4-5 before a home series versus Bowling Green (Jan. 11-12). Back-to-back road trips wrap up January at Bemidji State (Jan. 18-19) and Alaska Anchorage (Jan. 25-26).

The final eight games of the regular season are in the Upper Peninsula. Minnesota State is this season’s Winter Carnival opponent on Feb. 8-9 followed by the only meeting with Lake Superior State on Feb. 15-16 in Sault Ste. Marie. Tech hosts UAA on Feb. 22-23 and the season wraps up against NMU. Senior Night will be Friday with the finale on Saturday at the Berry Events Center.
