GWINN — Church goers in Gwinn have been stuffing backpacks full of school supplies in preparation for back to school.
In an effort to build interest and enthusiasm for education among children, the St. Francis Connections Center will be giving away backpacks filled with pencils, pens, notebooks and coloring materials. The giveaway is made possible thanks to a grant by the Community Foundation of Marquette County as donations from groups in the area.
“Basically, this is a great opportunity for parents to help support their children’s’ education,” St. Francis Pastor Allen Mott said. “It’s an opportunity for the community to work together in educating this generation of children that is coming.”
The event is open to children of all ages and will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 23rd, right outside the center. Along with the giveaway, there will also be a picnic featuring food and root beer floats.
